[Outfit Post #1] First Day of Summer Semester
Well, I had been numbering my older outfit posts but I think this new beginning merits restarting the count :). So here is outfit post #1, what I wore for the first day of summer semester :).

I'm Back!
Hi! I hope there are some people still out there reading - and I hope some of you are new! One of my goals this summer has been to (slowly) restart this blog. I had been inspired to start thinking seriously about fairy-tale fashion again, I was getting healthier and feeling better about myself (and thus wanted to dress up more!), I had found SO many amazingly inspiring new shops and blogs, I was thinking about renaming and (slightly) rebranding my etsy store, and overall it just seemed like the perfect time to jump back in. So I began with a bang, totally redoing the graphics, the links along the side, etc. etc. and was so excited to get back to posting about fairy-tale fashion, a sincere passion of mine. And then... well, sadly, other things got in the way and I had to put it on the backburner yet again.
But then, recently, a few things happened to convince me that now really was the time to restart this with gusto :). First, my boyfriend and I spontaneously went to an outdoor festival at which so many people were wearing the most inspiring, crazy outfits - when I lamented that I wasn't as dressed up as I would have been if I'd known we were going to attend it, we talked about how good it would be to just dress with fae intention EVERY day (and why not? No one is stopping us!) ... THEN, when I was brainstorming an article submission for a CFP that wanted new ways of thinking about fairy-tale scholarship, I starting thinking about how I could examine fairy-tale fashion through an academic lens... THEN, my friend Erin started doing inspiring daily outfit posts centered on scarves for each day of June... and THEN, my dear friend Grace made a post on Facebook asking if anyone was interested in starting a group dedicated to daily outfit posts/inspiration for mythic/fae/etc fashion, a group similar to her wildly popular Domythic Bliss FB group and blog, but dedicated to fashion instead of decor. As you can imagine, a huge group of people expressed interest and I, incredibly excitedly, wrote her a note asking if I could help get it off the ground and she said yes!
Thus, after much discussion, image tinkering, and idea collecting, the new group Daily Fae-shion was born on Facebook today!
Here is the group description: "This group is devoted to inspiring and encouraging magic in daily attire. If your dream wardrobe would be at home among the ephemera of a Brian Froud painting…if flowers in your hair aren’t just for Renaissance Festivals…and even if your taste runs more to bat pendants and crow feathers among the spikes on your shoulder pads…this is the group for you. Pinterest is wonderful, and can inspire, but we are hoping to share with each other *real* examples of *real* people wearing their daily clothes and trying to infuse them with a touch of fairy tale. Maybe you work in an office where you have to mostly “hide your wings,” but you still find little ways (through jewelry, footwear, etc) to feel magical. We’d love to see that too! If you have a knack for altering or accessorizing Goodwill and thrift store finds to create a whimsical ensemble, we would love to know your tricks! If the words Bohemian/Boho/Mori Girl/Black Forest Mori Girl/Goth/Medieval/Faerie/Flower Child/Princess/Witch describe the clothes you wear and/or love, then please join!"
And please do :). So here's to many more posts here as we move forward (including another one right after this one, an outfit post!) and a fantastic (restarted) journey!

Shop Update and More!
I have finally updated my shop, Ashes of Roses Designs, hurray! Lots of new stuff and a few old things are back up. Quartz crystals and stars and forest fare waiting to be sold :).

As I'm sure you've noticed, there hasn't been a lot of action on this blog. It's been a very busy year so far and it's a bit too hard for me to maintain all the different blogs I've got going on! Outfit #7: Forest Wandering
Some days the forest just begs to be explored.
Outfit #7: Forest Wandering
I love pictures of winter turning into spring - melting snow, dead branches coming back to life, the first hints of flowers....
The day I took these pictures was just insanely gorgeous! The sun was shining, it was warm but not too warm... just perfect.
I love this hairclip! I got in on sale at zappos.com when I was ordering something else and I'm so glad I did. The chains really add a hint of medieval flair somehow :).
This is the bookbag I use most often - there's a picture of one of my favorite paintings, Waterhouse's "The Lady of Shalott" in the little nametag slot and two buttons, one for The Strand bookstore in NYC and the other one a picture of Byron that says "The best heroes are Byronic", which is, of course, true :P.
Only needed a light-ish sweater! Fantastic :).
I sadly didn't have time to set up any father away shots this time, so just a bunch of closeups. This was a day for exploring outside! :).

Outfit #6: Modern Witch
This was an outfit I wore to my "Witchcraft in Comparative Perspectives" class... which, yes, is as awesome as it sounds :P.
Outfit #6: Modern Witch
I absolutely love Waterhouse's artwork and "The Magic Circle", shown here, is one of my favorite pieces of his.
I love how versatile this dress is! You can dress it up or down so easily. Velvet blazers are pretty much my favorite things in the world and the moonstone necklace is also one of my all time favorites.
The moonstone ring was a gift from one of my very best friends and the other ring says "witch faerie" on it, a bit of an inside joke from my folklore department but one I feel expresses me pretty well really :P.
Lovely moonstone earrings and black earrings I wear with everything.
You can really see the necklaces here! The other necklace is literally called, no joke, the "witch fairy" necklace. My mom got it for me for Christmas and left it in the bag it came in so that I could see the title and flip out :P. She's riding a broom made out of a tree branch! I love how red my hair looks in this picture... when the light hits it just right it's awesome :P.
So yes, after this I went off to discuss witchcraft in the early modern period - I believe I was dressed quite appropriately!

Etsy Treasury: A Scrappy Little Bird Waiting for Spring
A new etsy treasury! This one was inspired by fabric scraps, feathers, wool, odd, sparkly trinkets, scraps of sunlight, and a touch of magic... the collection of a scrappy little bird waiting for spring :).

Outfit #5: Wuthering Heights
An outfit modeled after the ghosts on the moors...
Outfit #5: Wuthering Heights
Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë is one of my all time favorite books and I did my best to capture a bit of its dark, romantic, wild theme.
The two twisting roses ring is made out of silverware (!) and this is actually my second version of it... the first one was a gift and I wore it so much that it snapped right in half :(. I was so surprised and delighted to find it again recently!
Photographs reveal that this dress is sadly not as flattering as I had thought, alas. I still like the color combination of that really light gray and black though.

Love that high necked lace top and the necklace, which is actually a perfume holder! I wish the picture hadn't turned out so blurry :/.
